Kendō
The Way of the Sword. Train with shinai bamboo swords and bogu armor, developing precision, timing, and focused aggression under strict etiquette.
Train in the ancient disciplines of kendō, aikidō, jūdō, and karate inside our Shibuya dojo. Guided by masters. Rooted in bushidō. Open to all levels.
Each martial art offers a distinct path of physical and mental development. Find the discipline that speaks to your spirit — or train in all four.
The Way of the Sword. Train with shinai bamboo swords and bogu armor, developing precision, timing, and focused aggression under strict etiquette.
The Way of Harmonious Spirit. Master fluid throws and joint locks that redirect an opponent's force — a practice of grace, balance, and non-resistance.
The Gentle Way. Using leverage and momentum rather than brute strength, judō teaches powerful throws, pins, and submission holds on the tatami mat.
The Empty Hand. Build explosive strikes, powerful blocks, and disciplined kata sequences rooted in Okinawan tradition and physical conditioning.
Bushidō — the Way of the Warrior — is the ethical code that has guided samurai conduct for centuries. At Ember Storm Weave, it is not a historical footnote. It is the living framework of every session, every bow, every breath drawn on the mat.
We believe martial arts training is inseparable from moral development. Strength without virtue is merely aggression. Here, you forge both.
From first-time beginners to seasoned competitors, our structured programs meet you where you are and take you further.
Start your journey on the path of the sword. This 12-week program introduces footwork, striking technique, shinai handling, and the formal etiquette of the dojo. No prior experience required.
Deepen your connection between body and mind. This ongoing practice course covers essential throws (nage-waza), locks (kansetsu-waza), and the philosophy of blending with force.
Designed for competitors aiming at tournament-level performance. Intensive randori (free practice), grip fighting, newaza ground work, and strategic preparation for regional IJF events.
A focused 8-week seminar on practical self-defence applications drawn from karate kata. Learn awareness, de-escalation, and effective striking techniques for real-world situations.
Everything at Ember Storm Weave is designed to forge character alongside physical skill — inside and beyond the mat.
All three of our permanent sensei hold black belt grades of 5th dan or higher, certified by Japan's national governing federations.
Our dojo upholds strict safety protocols including padded tatami mats, bogu armor standards, and a rigorous code of dojo etiquette.
We teach directly from classical curricula handed down through unbroken lineages — no sport shortcut, no hybrid dilution.
From age 12 upward, every background is welcome. Our community spans students, office workers, athletes, and retired professionals.
Clear grade milestones, regular gradings, and individual mentoring ensure every student advances with purpose and measurable growth.
Regular training builds cardiovascular endurance, explosive strength, flexibility, and the mental resilience to push past perceived limits.
Decades of training, competition, and teaching converge in our sensei. Each brings a lifetime of dedication to every class.
Kendō 7th Dan — Head Sensei
A National Kendō Federation champion with over 35 years on the floor. Sensei Tanaka trained under the late Grandmaster Inoue in Kyoto before joining our dojo as head instructor in 2003.
Aikidō 6th Dan — Instructor
Trained at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo under Ueshiba Moriteru. Sensei Suzuki brings a deep philosophical approach to practice, integrating breath work and body awareness into every lesson.
Jūdō & Karate 5th Dan — Instructor
A two-discipline expert and former national jūdō team member, Sensei Yamamoto now oversees the competition and self-defence programmes with a demanding yet encouraging teaching style.
"Three years ago I walked in knowing nothing about martial arts. Today I hold my blue belt in jūdō. The structure and patience of the instructors here are unlike anything I have experienced elsewhere."
"Sensei Suzuki's aikidō classes completely changed the way I carry myself — on and off the mat. The philosophy runs through every technique. This dojo is a rare place in Tokyo."
"As a competitive kendō practitioner visiting from Germany, I spent two months training here. The level of instruction and the spirit of the dojo exceed anything I have found in Europe."
All classes run for 90 minutes. Arrive 15 minutes early to change and bow in.
